Espresso Cup | Danger Cake Pottery

Roq Salter(they/them) at DangerCake.art is queer and trans artist who has transitioned from a life as a professional baker and pastry chef to one of creating and teaching ceramics. Roq has a passion for working with their hands and teaching others; they have sunk right into the rhythm of throwing pottery and sharing their skills in group classes at the City of Guelph Community Pottery Centre and private lessons & student workshops at their home studio.

Roq plays with form and colour palates that emulate and explore the shapes and textures of the natural world; earthy tones of shaded woods, the waters and stone of babbling brooks, the mossy life bursting forth from rocks hidden in the forest floor, and the deep sheen of a cold lake in the dark of night. If at its root, pottery is the transformation of earth into art of everyday use, Roq’s work is an invitation to sit with the process that the clay undergoes in the hands of the artist and transformative fires of the kiln. Please remember that the variation inherent in the creative process leaves literal and artistic fingerprints of the artist in the work, and that no two pieces will be truly identical. That being said, requests and custom orders are joyfully explored.

While these pieces are dishwasher safe and microwave safe, care and consideration are encouraged to extend the life of your pieces- hand washing is always the gentlest choice.
